We apologise for the delay in updating our website. Here's what's been happening over the last 18 months:
Once again we were delighted when the Rev Ronnie Morrison, Tain announced that we were going to have another student in Lairg & Bonar for his 2nd year placement. John Forbes, his wife Mary and baby Catherine spent 2 months in Lairg Manse in June and July last year. We were greatly blessed with good preaching, a warm welcome in the manse, home visits and help at the fun day.
Everyone was very sad when it was time for John, Mary & Catherine to leave but we were delighted to have John back in February and also to hear news of the safe arrival of James Alexander, Catherine's baby brother. We wish the whole family the Lord's blessing especially at a time when big decisons have to be made. May they know the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Just before Christmas Steve Adamson and his wife Von took up residence at the manse for a 5 month placement. Steve is a theology student from a seminary in Colorado, USA and is preaching in Bonar, Lairg & Rosehall in January, April and May. The rest of the time he is assisting other congregations in the presbytery. Steve returns to the states in May to continue his studies which will be completed in December. He then hopes to return to Scotland to study for a PhD at HTC in Dingwall. It is a great privilege for us to have them here.
Congratulations to John and Joanna Shepherd on the birth of their son Alexander on December 18th. We wish them all God's blessing.
We have been greatly blessed during our vacancy with good preaching, much prayer and an awareness that the Lord is with us in spite of many setbacks. A congregational meeting is planned for Tuesday April 22nd in the Gair Hall, Bonar Bridge at 7.30pm to finalise discussions regarding the calling of a minister. Our prayer is that the Lord will continue to guide us and show us His way concerning this.
Over the year we have heard all the 3rd year students and have been very impressed with the quality of the preaching. We need to continue to pray for more students to enter the college for there is a great need for good teaching in our day.
It was decided to have an interdenominational service to celebrate the year of Highland Culture in 2007. The service was held in July and was conducted by Major Ian Alistair Macdonald from SASRA with contributions from members of local congregations along with Ruaridh Maclean, a newly qualified FC minister who blessed us with powerful gaelic psalm singing. This service was passionate and thought provoking as we were reminded to make our calling and election sure. Tea and fellowship followed in the hall afterwards where Major Macdonald spoke about his work for SASRA.
Sunday services will now be held in Lairg at 10.30am and in Bonar Bridge at 12 noon. Evening services are at 6.30pm and will rotate between Lairg and Bonar with the last service of the month being held in Rosehall.
